We are currently seeking applications for a Chief Digital Officer within Scottish Government Communications Department based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

Online communication is at the heart of the Scottish Government’s engagement with citizens, stakeholders and staff. A unique opportunity has arisen to lead the Government’s online communications and engagement strategy and to support, influence and inform as the organisation adopts a digital first approach to communications.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. High level of knowledge and expertise in digital planning, implementation and evaluation techniques as they apply to modern Communications.
2. Practical experience of influencing and shaping a digital environment in the private or public sectors, including problem-solving as issues arise and deployment of the full range of social media content.
3. Experience of leading a team that has been at the forefont of transformation and of exerting influence that goes beyond individual managerial reporting lines, while demonstrating acute awareness of the political landscape in Scotland and propriety issues surrounding online engagement.
4. Ability to establish and nurture strong relationships at the most senior level in the organisation, so that evidence-based advice and guidance offered by the Digital Communications team has authority and credibility with all parts of Government.
