We are currently seeking applications to fill an Equality Policy Team Leader post within the Directorate for Local Government and Communities based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The First Minster has made clear her commitment to ensuring that equality and human rights are central to the Scottish Government’s agenda. The Equality Unit plays a crucial part in making that ambition a reality, supporting colleagues across Scottish Government, and the wider public sector, to put equality at the heart of what they do.
We are currently recruiting a key member of the leadership team for the Equality Unit.

The post-holder’s primary role will be to play a part in the collective leadership of the Equality Unit, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, setting out a compelling vision for delivering equality and negotiating concrete actions to achieve it. All our team leaders work directly with Ministers and senior staff, across Scottish Government and externally. The post will have direct line management responsibility for a small team but will be expected to offer leadership across the Unit and Division.

Alongside that the post-holder will have specific responsibility for our work on strategy and mainstreaming, working closely with Ministers to lead a fundamental re-evaluation of our approach to mainstreaming equality and human rights across the public sector in Scotland.

The post sits within the Equalities, Human Rights & Third Sector Division which is undergoing a period of renewal as its profile and significance to the Government’s agenda continues to develop at pace. As a key member of this Division, the post-holder will be expected to make links between the equality agenda and the broader work of the Division to advance equality and human rights across Scotland.
