We are currently seeking applications for a Flood Risk Management - Technical Policy Adviser within the Scottish Government based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

You will work closely with SEPA, Scotland’s national flood warning authority and advisor on flood risk management, responsible authorities including local authorities and Scottish Water, as well as other interests such as community groups and the insurance industry. Specifically you will bring technical flood risk management expertise to the team, actively advising the team on all aspects of flood risk management and coast protection. Whilst being the technical expert in the team, you will also be involved in every aspect of the team’s work, including policy development and a wide range of Ministerial support work.

Qualifications Required
A degree in civil engineering would be advantageous, however in the absence of a degree candidates will have to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

1. Specialist technical expertise in flood risk management.
2. Ability to take ownership of specific pieces of work and use own initiative to develop solutions, resulting in successful policy delivery.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and influence a range of internal and external policy colleagues.
4. Highly effective written communication skills, with attention to detail.
