We are currently seeking applications for User Researchers within the Social Security Programme Directorate based in Glasgow or Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

This post attracts a £4,000 Digital Data and Technology pay supplement, (DDaTPS), after a 9 months ICT Competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.

The Smith Commission proposed the devolution of significant welfare powers to the Scottish Parliament.  Many of these powers are set out in the new Scotland Act.  Once fully enacted, social security benefits in excess of £2.7bn will be transferred from the UK Parliament, including powers to create Scottish benefits for those of working age. This will allow the Scottish Government to establish many elements of a Scottish social security system.

The Social Security Programme Directorate has been established to take forward the Scotland Act powers on devolved benefits.  This vacancy sits within the Programme Management & Delivery Division User Research team who work with our delivery teams to plan, design and deliver research activities.

Essential Criteria
1. Experience in a research setting, delivering a range of user-centred design research.
2. Demonstrates the ability to choose and apply appropriate user-centred design research methods (from data gathering to synthesis and analysis) for different design life cycle phases and situations.
3. Ability to communicate research approaches and insights effectively.
4. Knowledge of other user centred design practices.
