We are currently seeking applications for 20 Lawyers within the Government Legal Service for Scotland (GLSS) based in Edinburgh. These are permanent and pensionable appointments and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The Government Legal Service for Scotland (GLSS) consists of a number of offices based in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London that provide legal services to central government in Scotland (in particular the Scottish and UK Governments) and offers one of the most varied careers in law. You will be at the centre of Government and, as well as the opportunity to work in the core government legal offices the GLSS also provides staff to other bodies including the Scottish Law Commission.

The GLSS supports the work of the Scottish Government and its associated agencies by providing high quality legal advice and services. The work you will be doing will be wide ranging, covering the whole breadth of topics on which the Scottish Government is engaged. It will be varied, challenging, high profile and often topical. It is unique and intellectually demanding. It is also rewarding, enjoyable and carried out in a supportive environment.

Qualifications Required
You must be an advocate or solicitor admitted, or to be admitted in, in Scotland.

Essential Criteria
1. A knowledge of the law as it affects government in Scotland
2. Ability to organise and manage your own workload in a flexible way to respond to competing priorities.
3. Ability to manage information and interpret data to enable you to make sound decisions.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to establish and build strong working relationships, and convey complex issues clearly and concisely.
