We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Service Designer within the Directorate for Digital based in Victoria Quay, Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. This role sits within the Product and Commercial Division, a newly established area of Scottish Government’s Digital Directorate. The work of the division is central to developing digital business models and supporting the objective of becoming a digital government.

The role will have responsibilities that cover three overlapping programmes:
• Creation of a new payments platform, helping influence and shape delivery of a user-focused shared service for rollout across the public sector.
• Development of a digital commercial service, to transform the way in which digital projects are procured and managed.
• Supporting the award-winning CivTech programme with its aim of solving real-world problems through innovative partnerships between the public and private sector.

Service designers design the end-to-end journey of a service. This helps a user complete their goal and government deliver a policy intent. Their work may involve the creation of, or change to, transactions, products and content across both digital and offline channels provided by different parts of government.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £4,000.00 DDaT pay supplement after a 9 month DDaT competency qualifying period.  Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. Experience in a digital service design setting, designing and delivering a wide range of service design activities including: support team members to understand the value of design, negotiating design briefs and service developments, leading service design activates, and delivering service outcomes based on user, staff and organisational needs.
2. Ability to choose and apply appropriate user-centred design methods (from data gathering, idea & concept generation, and prototyping) for different design life cycle phases and situations.
3. Ability to communicate design approaches and insights effectively in such a way as to stimulate conversation and collaboration.
4. Knowledge of other user centred design practices and experience of collaborating with them for service delivery.
