We are currently seeking applications for a Policy Officer - Diet & Healthy Weight within the Directorate for Population Health based in St. Andrews House, Edinburgh, EH1 3DG. with scope to work in Atlantic Quay, Glasgow on Mondays and Fridays, if more suitable. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

This B2 post sits within the Diet and Healthy Weight team, Health Improvement Division. The team is responsible for delivering the government’s vision for everyone in Scotland to eat well and have a healthy weight. This forms part of one of six Public Health Priorities jointly created by Scottish Government and Council of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA). The team consists of a C2, C1, 3 x B3, 2 x B2s, a B1 and this B2 vacancy.

The successful candidate will have a lead role in the implementation of A Healthier Future: Scotland’s diet and healthy weight delivery plan, published in July 2018. Specifically, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of two PfG commitments central to this plan:

• Ensuring people with, or at risk of, Type 2 Diabetes have access to effective weight management services through the implementation our Type 2 Diabetes framework.
• Halving childhood obesity by 2030.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. Proven planning and organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands and a track record of successful delivery.
2. Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
3. Proven project management skills.
4. Excellent interpersonal, networking and team working skills and experience of working successfully with external stakeholders.
