We are currently seeking applications for a Policy Officer within in the Climate Change, based in Edinburgh or Glasgow. This is a 18 month fixed term and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The First Minister declared a Global Climate Emergency in April and committed to placing climate change at the heart of everything we do within Scottish Government, including this year's Programme for Government, resource and capital spending reviews and budget. This includes commitments to establish a new Climate Challenge Fund, a National Forum on Climate Change and to establish a Citizens Assembly on Climate Change within the life of the current Parliament.

2019-2021 is a very important period for international action on climate change under the Paris Agreement. The major UN Climate Conference – COP 26 - will be held in Glasgow in 2020.

Following the adoption by Parliament of the Climate Change Bill in September, ministers have committed to updating our Climate Change Plan within 6 months of Royal Assent to ensure that the plan lives up to the ambition of our new targets.

The Scottish Government's Climate Change Division is expanding to step up to these challenges and deliver an ambitious response to the Global Climate Emergency that also ensures that Scotland's ambition, innovation and actions are showcased at COP26.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B and C you must hold a minimum of 3 highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
2. Experience of working effectively as part of a team; identifying, escalating and suggesting solutions to issues where appropriate.
3. Good analytical skills with an ability to organise and collate information and draw out key messages and findings to support decisions.
4. Planning and organisational skills, including proven ability to manage competing priorities and tasks, work to tight deadlines and respond quickly and flexibly to new demands.
