We are currently seeking applications for a Meat Hygiene Inspector within Foods Standard Scotland.These jobs are based across Scotland. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The Meat Hygiene Inspector (MHI) role is one of the key front-line operational roles within the FSS. These staff deliver Official Controls (OC) in approved premises across Scotland, ensuring that meat produced is safe for human consumption.
The core work for the Meat Hygiene Inspector is the delivery of Official Controls for related to meat production in Red and White meat slaughterhouses and Game handling establishments (GHE’s) within Scotland.

At all times an FSS MHI works under the technical direction of an FSS Official Veterinarian (OV) who is the technical lead for field teams in the post mortem inspection and verification of the Food Business Operator’s (FBO) compliance with all relevant legislation as stated in the FSS’s Manual for Official Controls (SMOC).

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

The candidate must have a Qualification in Red  and White Meat Inspection or equivalent.
