We are currently seeking applications for a Operations Technical Administrator within Foods Standard Scotland based in Aberdeen. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Food Standards Scotland (FSS) was established by the Food (Scotland) Act 2015 as a non-ministerial office, part of the Scottish Administration, alongside, but separate from, the Scottish Government. Our primary concern is consumer protection – making sure that food is safe to eat; ensuring consumers know what they are eating and improving nutrition. We are mainly funded by government but we also charge fees to recover costs for some regulatory functions.

The technical administrator post forms part of the Operational Delivery Team within the Food Standards Scotland (FSS) Operational Delivery Branch. Key responsibilities for this role are administration of the shellfish results, production of classification documents and administrative support for management meetings . Strong communication, and collaborative working skills are essential to develop and maintain effective working relationships within FSS and also with key external stakeholders which include technical experts, contractors and Local Authorities. Attention to detail is required in maintaining databases and reconciling invoices from suppliers.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band A, you must hold a minimum of 5 Standard Grades (grades 1 – 3) or Ordinary Grades (A-C) including English and a numerical subject.

Essential Criteria
1. Excellent communication skills with examples of positive collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including technical specialists.
2. Proven track record of working with minimal supervision to achieve objectives with an attention to detail and concern for accuracy.
3. Strong organisational and time management skills to be able to manage the priorities of your workload whilst meeting agreed deadlines and dealing with urgent matters as they arise.
4. Experience and competence in the use of a range of IT Packages including Microsoft Office and experience of interrogating databases.
