Overview
An opportunity exists for a number of full time, temporary inspectors in the Grampian area for a period of approximately 4 weeks during July 2020 and also in subsequent years. Candidates successful at interview will be required to attend, and pass, a practical two week training course near Edinburgh commencing June 15th.

Main Duties
You will be a member of a team of inspectors involved in the inspection of field crops of seed potatoes entered into the Scottish Seed Potato Classification Scheme. The work will involve visiting farms and assisting in the inspection of these crops. In carrying out inspections you must be proficient in the identification of potato varieties, rogues, pests and diseases and be familiar with the inspection tolerances for each classification grade - full training is provided for successful candidates. Findings must be recorded accurately and inspection reports completed in a neat and legible fashion

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for the post and full, comprehensive training will be provided. However, an agricultural or biological science background would be advantageous. Applicants should also be aware that the post involves working outside in all but the most severe weather conditions and as travel is involved access to transport would be an advantage.

1. You must be able to communicate effectively with both colleagues and growers, being able to communicate information in a clear, accurate and concise manner either face to face or by telephone.  
2. Self-management skills, with the ability to meet set targets and work with minimal supervision as well as take personal responsibility for your actions so that targets are met.
3. You will have good organisational skills will be well organised and able to prioritise your work accordingly. You will demonstrate sound judgement and have confidence in your decisions and as you will be working in a professional environment, attention to detail is imperative. You will be aware of how your actions impact on others and will seek the support of senior supervisors when needed.
4. Excellent team working skills. You will be reliable and well-motivated, have good inter-personal skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team. You will be able to build and maintain good working relationships with others.
