We are currently seeking applications for a Lyon Office Secretary  within the Court of the Lord Lyon   based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.
The Court of the Lord Lyon is headed by the Lord Lyon King of Arms.  The Lyon Office is run by the Lyon Clerk who is also Keeper of the Records.  The Court oversees and regulates the grant and use of Arms and Heraldic Devices in Scotland; is responsible for State Ceremonial in Scotland; and plays a unique role in national planning activities and heritage promotion in particular in the fields of State Ceremonial, heraldry, genealogy and Scottish clans and families.  In respect of grants of Arms, the Court maintains and adds, on a weekly basis, to the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings (established in 1672).  The Court engages five Heraldic Artists and three Calligraphers.  In respect of State Ceremonial, the Court oversees the eight Officers-of-Arms, the Macer to the Court of the Lord Lyon and four State Trumpeters.
The Lyon Office supports the work of the Lord Lyon and the Lyon Clerk.  On a day-to-day basis it deal with those with business before the Court (both professional and lay people) and with members of the public who make enquiries in person, by letter and via email.  The Lyon Office liaises with the Heraldic Artists to ensure the efficient preparation of grants of Arms and liaises with the Officers of Arms and others (such as the Armed Forces, Local Authorities, the Police, Lords Lieutenant, officials of the Royal Household and the Scottish Government) to ensure the effective delivery of Royal and State Ceremonial.  
Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band A, you must hold a minimum of 5 Standard Grades (grades 1 – 3) or Ordinary Grades (A-C) including English and a numerical subject.
Other qualifications equivalent to these may also be acceptable, if you are in any doubt please contact to discuss.

Essential Criteria
1. Good inter-personal skills, being able to deal with professionals and members of the public.
2. Good written and oral communication skills.
3. Experience of using SEAS or demonstrable ability to learn to use new IT packages efficiently and effectively.
4. Ability to work well as part of a team.
