We are currently seeking applications for two Developer's within the National Records of Scotland based in Ladywell House, Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £4,000 DDAT pay supplement after a 9 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.

National Records of Scotland (NRS) is a Non-Ministerial Department within the Scottish Administration.  It is headed by a Chief Executive who fulfils the role of two non-ministerial office-holders, the Registrar General for Scotland and the Keeper of the Records of Scotland.  NRS performs the registration and statistical functions of the Registrar General for Scotland and the archival functions of the Keeper of the Records of Scotland, including maintaining the archives as one of Scotland’s five National Collections.

The IT Function within National Records of Scotland (NRS) provides systems and services to support the key activities of the organisation:

• Records management and Archival practice in Scotland
• Family and local history research (known as ScotlandsPeople)
• Registration of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and other life events
• Collecting, analysing and publishing information about Scotland’s people, Scotland's Census
• Corporate administration

Both posts both sit within the Java Applications development team and provide development resource for ICT software development projects and the ongoing maintenance and support of delivered software in a process of continual improvement.

Essential Criteria
1. Experience of developing web applications in Java and associated web technologies, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and an ability to learn new technologies as required.
2. Knowledge of, and experience working with, software development tools including IDE, version control, continuous integration and issue tracking.
3. Familiarity with software development frameworks such as Spring, Struts, Hibernate and test frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito and Serenity.
4. Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and engineering principles for application design, code, build, test and deploy.
