We are currently seeking applications for an Assistant Carousel Technician within the SASA based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

This permanent post is based at SASA within the Virology & Zoology (V&Z) branch which carries out diagnostic testing on a range of samples to meet the Scottish Government’s commitments in relation to Seed Potato Classification and Plant Health Regulations. This post will be primarily based in the area of Nematology; but will provide assistance in other areas as required.

The Nematology laboratory is the single official testing centre for potato cyst nematodes (PCN) in Scotland and is responsible for processing up to 18000 soil samples each year from land that is intended for growing seed potatoes. Sample analysis is carried out by Laboratory Diagnosticians using a molecular based test.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band A, you must hold a minimum of 5 Standard Grades (grades 1 – 3) or Ordinary Grades (A-C) including English and a numerical subject or equivalent laboratory experience, particularly working within a laboratory-based, quality assured environment and experience of machine operation.

Essential Criteria
1. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their ability to work as part of a team, have good communication skills and a flexible approach.
2. You will be able to demonstrate a methodical approach to your work, good organisational skills and attention to detail.
3. You will have experience in operating machinery, preferably within a high through-put, quality assured workplace.
