We are currently seeking applications for two Cook Stewards within Marine Scotland based in Edinburgh. These are permanent and pensionable appointments and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

There is currently 2 permanent vacancies for the post of Cook Steward within Marine Scotland. These posts are based on board either our Marine Protection vessels or Marine Research Vessels. The Marine Protection Vessels are MPV Minna,  MPV Jura and MPV Hirta. These vessels carry out patrols which normally last 21 days. The Research Vessels MRV Alba Na Mara and MRV Scotia carry out research cruises that vary in length, but generally are no more than 22 days. All vessels are double crewed, permitting trip on/trip off crew rostering. The catering department consists of two posts except for the Alba Na Mara which carries one Cook Steward.

Qualifications Required
• Full Ship’s Cook Certificate of Competency 
• Relevant STCW certification including up to date certification in Personal Survival Techniques, Basic Firefighting, elementary first, Personal and Social Responsibility plus Proficiency in Security Duties. 
• Valid unrestricted ENG1 medical certificate 
• Food Hygiene Certification (as per latest STCW requirements)
• Ability and willingness to work in the capacity of either Cook and/ or Steward, dependent on vessel requirements

Please note: If you fail to demonstrate how you meet the minimum qualifications as stated above, your application will be automatically sifted out.

Essential Criteria
1. Ability to prepare and cook all meals as per menus, and the ability to assist Chief Steward, if appropriate, with preparation of these menus and ordering of appropriate stores.
2. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work with the minimum of supervision to produce a high standard nutritious food.
3. Knowledge and skills to ensure a high standard of hygiene both in preparation of food and in cleaning galley, food handling spaces and food store rooms.
4. Excellent awareness of safe and hygienic working practices.
