We are currently seeking applications for Senior Content Designers within the Social Security Programme based in Glasgow or Edinburgh (with regular travel between the two offices and occasionally to other government department locations). This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a  £4,000 DDaT pay supplement after a 9 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.

Following the Smith Commission the Scotland Act 2016 and the Social Security (Scotland) Act 2018 put in place an overarching legislative framework for the administration of social security in Scotland. The Scottish Government is now reforming social security in Scotland and has implemented a programme of work which is delivering the infrastructure necessary for a brand new public service for Scotland, ensuring the service meets the needs of the people of Scotland now and in the future. It is an extremely important change with the ambition to make a real difference to the lives of individuals receiving devolved benefits in Scotland.

Over the last 3 years the Programme have already designed, developed and implemented a number of new welfare support measures that are being delivered by the newly created Social Security Scotland but there is much more to be done. This Programme of work will extend over the coming years to design and deliver further services for people with Disabilities, with Caring responsibilities and more, reaching out to the most vulnerable parts of society.

We are recruiting for senior content designers to work within our user centred design team. A senior content designer is an expert practitioner who develops content strategy and solutions for large-scale problems and high profile events. They take responsibility for content quality, managing small teams and mentoring content designers. They write and map user stories, assure quality and review the work of others. They lead on cross-government content projects. They engage and contribute to the cross-government content community.

Essential Criteria
1. Extensive experience of writing for the web, with proven ability of planning and creating accessible user-centred content.
2. Proven experience in using data and user feedback to define and refine content.
3. Proven experience of managing relationships with stakeholders.
4. Experience in working with content publishing systems.

Provisional Sift and Interview Dates
Sift: Week commencing 9th August
Interviews: Week commencing 23rd August
