Salary on secondment will be on existing terms and conditions and the Scottish Government will agree re-imbursement arrangements with your employer. Below Permanent Secretary level there are 4 main pay bands (1, 1A, 2 & 3) covering the Senior Civil Service and this appointment is placed in Pay Band 1.

Applications are invited for this key Senior Civil Service science role as Chief Scientist, Health in the Scottish Government. This provides a unique opportunity to have a direct influence on strategic policy outcomes affecting the future of Scotland.

The Chief Scientist, Health is one of three Chief Scientific posts in the Scottish Government.  The purpose of the role is to identify, promote and encourage research which addresses the health and healthcare needs of the people of Scotland.  The Chief Scientist plays a key role in formulating and implementing the Research Strategy for the NHS in Scotland and is responsible for one of the larger research budgets within the Scottish Government. 

This Senior Civil Service role is advertised as a 2 days per week part-time secondment, based in Edinburgh.  Appointment will be for 3 years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
