Communications Pay Supplement* £2,000 per annum pro rata rising to £3,750 on completion of 12 months’ successful service.

We are currently seeking applications for a Social Media Manager within the Communications Division based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

Working in the Communications Division, you will provide digital and social media support for media managers and advice to Ministers and officials.

The Digital Communications Team is part of the Communications and Ministerial Support Directorate and has become a centre of excellence as digital has become an increasingly mainstream part of all Scottish Government business. Social media is a key way for the Scottish Government to communicate and engage with its audiences.
You will work with teams across the division, assisting in the delivery of high quality, engaging content to a wide range of audiences.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Bands B and C, you must hold a minimum of 3 SCE Higher or A Level qualifications (grades A-C) with one being English. Other qualifications equivalent to these may also be acceptable, if you are in any doubt please contact the Resourcing Officer named at the end of this advert to discuss.

Main Duties
• Draft and implement social media content plans.

• Provide digital and social media support at high priority Ministerial events.
• Updating the Scottish Government’s social media channels, which include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube, Audioboom.
• Ensure content is of a high standard and is used effectively to meet strategic communications objectives.
• Work with policy and news colleagues to develop stand-alone digital and social media tactics and assets – such as video clips, infographics, GIFs, and case studies.
• Community management of social media channels including moderating comments and managing responses to direct messages.
• Monitor digital and social media analytics to contribute to evaluation and inform future activity.
• Carry out social media monitoring using keywords around high profile events

Essential Criteria
1. Proven experience as a social media manager including managing multiple channels

2. Experience planning and creating content tailored to specific social media channels and audiences
3. Excellent understanding of the social media landscape
4. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
5. Ability to work in a busy environment, respond to fast-moving situations and give trusted advice to colleagues at all levels.
