We are currently seeking applications for two Crofting Development Officers within the Crofting Commission. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

These are two new posts, one in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, and one in Balivanich, Isle of Benbecula. Located in the Western Isles, the post holders will be expected to forge a new approach to crofting development, with support from the Commission headquarters in Inverness. The overall aim of the posts is to support the strengthening and diversification of crofting, in the local area and across the Highlands and Islands. Working with the local Crofting Commissioner and volunteer assessors, the post holders will need to build relationships with crofters, crofting communities, landlords and other public bodies, to further these ends.

Business Area
The Commission is establishing a new ‘crofting development’ team, comprising the two new posts in the Western Isles, who will report to a B3 line manager in Inverness.  The team will be supported by staff in existing Commission teams including the grazings team.

You may initially be asked to work from home, but the permanent location for these posts will be within the Scottish Government offices in Stornoway and Balivanich. You will be supported by other staff of the Commission in Inverness and the Western Isles, and will be able to draw on office facilities and support provided by the Scottish Government in your office location.

Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. Experience of working directly with communities in a field such as crofting, agriculture, community development, business development or environmental improvement.
2. Experience of partnership working with public, private or voluntary agencies to achieve common goals.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Innovation and vision, with experience of putting new ideas into practice within crofting or any other field.
