We are currently seeking applications for a Head of Scrutiny within Education Scotland based in Glasgow, Livingston, Dundee or Aberdeen. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

The successful candidate will join Education Scotland which is the national improvement agency for Scottish education and an executive agency of the Scottish Government. Our role is to promote improvement through inspection and review, innovation and change, from the early years to adult learning and to provide support and challenge to the education system. The post holder will be part of the leadership team for the Scrutiny Directorate.  This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to Scottish education for someone who can take a strategic approach, with excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have relevant experience in quality improvement in education and a sound understanding of the functions of HM Inspectors of Education.  You will have the ability to transform and deliver services and programmes to a high standard.

Qualifications Required
A relevant degree within education.

Other qualifications equivalent to these may also be acceptable, if you are in any doubt please contact to discuss.

Essential Criteria
1. A strong track record of leadership at senior management level within an education environment, including leading and delivering complex projects, providing effective leadership of people and resources, building capability and motivating a team.
2. Proven experience in developing and maintaining productive and high quality relationships with senior external stakeholders with high levels of personal resilience.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills, systematically analysing a diverse range of information and cut through complexity to bring clear, relevant and intelligible findings and recommendations to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
4. A sound understanding of approaches to quality improvement in education and how these can be used to best effect to address the strategic challenges facing the Scottish education system, learning and teaching and other aspects of education.
