We are currently seeking applications for a Head of Press & Media within the Food Standards Scotland based in Aberdeen. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. This is an opportunity to work in our growing and ambitious communications and marketing team to help tackle one of the most difficult issues facing Scotland – the health of our nation.

Information about the Role
FSS wishes to significantly increase its media presence and visibility building on the successful launch of our new FSS Strategy to 2026.

This is a new role and we are seeking a dynamic and proactive strategist to build our media relationships and take our media presence to the next level.

Reporting to the Head of Communications and Marketing
you will be responsible for leading and overseeing our media relations work and team in terms of strategy, planning, tactical execution, implementation, optimisation and performance analysis.

Essential Criteria
1. Excellent writing skills gained through a background in journalism or media affairs in an agency or in-house.
2. Knowledge of the UK & Scottish media and trade press landscape covering news, consumer and PR with an interest in current affairs (media, politics and food trends).
3. Successful track record of driving media coverage.
4. Experienced in handling reactive and proactive media and able to manage crisis communications sensitively.
